Unspoiled beauty and a unique charm coupled with easy access and a range of authentic experiences has put Jersey firmly on traveller’s wish lists. More first-time holiday makers have chosen Jersey, the island break, over the past three years than ever before.
For almost 20-years locally born Jackie Donald, has played an active role in one of the island’s largest and most colourful summer events, The Jersey Battle of Flowers; for the past 10 years this was in the role of the Parade’s Event Director. Therefore. she has a wealth of experience when it comes to Jersey’s festivals and events and what it means to help enhance the visitor experience.
“We may be small in size and face infrastructure challenges but without doubt, Jersey boasts an enviable choice of festivals and events throughout the year; celebrating everything from our arts and heritage to celebrations of local produce and music as well as sporting challenges. While many events are community focused, visitors are encouraged to get involved, join in the fun and soak up the atmosphere and help.
Of course, the island is known for its established Festivals and Events such as the Battle of Flowers, International Air Display, Literary Festival, Jersey Marathon and the Weekender but we also have a great variety of smaller specialist events. But one thing we, as event organisers have in common is the sheer passion and enthusiasm, coupled with the knowledge and experience of our local infrastructure. Yes, it’s hard work behind the scenes putting everything together but what a great feeling we have to see happy people, of all ages, having fun and giving such positive feedback.
As for me, like many others I love to get out and about and enjoy the festivities on offer. Islanders and visitors are really spoilt for choice, when you look at the “events calendar” there is something on nearly every week.
